The 2023 flagship from Realme, known as the Realme GT5, continues the company’s tradition of being exclusively available in the Chinese market, similar to its predecessor, the GT3. It’s disheartening to observe Realme retracting from the premium and upper mid-range smartphone segments in Western markets, especially when its GT series has proven to be a strong contender in both European and Indian markets.
Regardless, the GT5 offers a wealth of features and is available in two primary variants, each with rapid charging capabilities of either 150W or 240W. The former version boasts a larger 5,240 mAh battery and a maximum internal storage capacity of 512GB. On the other hand, the 240W iteration pushes the boundaries of memory with a single configuration that includes a whopping 1TB of internal storage and a generous 24GB of RAM. It might be seen as a bit excessive in terms of RAM. However, it’s worth noting that the battery capacity remains at 4,600 mAh, which is consistent with last year’s GT3 with 240W charging.
Speaking of the remarkable 240W charging, it may still sound like something out of science fiction, but Realme has already broken the 200W barrier before. We had the opportunity to test the GT3 last year, which gave us a preview of what to expect—charging cycles that can fill up the battery in less than 15 minutes. That’s impressively fast.
Apart from some slight design tweaks, now blending elements from Google Pixel’s last two generations with last year’s GT3, everything else remains business as usual. There aren’t any significant changes to the hardware, with the exception of the chipset, of course. The device now boasts this year’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
The display, battery (as previously mentioned), and cameras all remain unchanged. In fact, these components have seen little alteration over various iterations of the Realme GT series.
However, it’s essential to note that this consistency doesn’t detract from the fact that it’s still a great phone.
